What exactly is PBAT+PLA+Cornstarch?

PLA, also known as polylactic acid, or polyactide is obtained from renewable and natural raw materials such as corn. The starch (glucose) is extracted from the plants and converted into dextrose by the addition of enzymes. This is fermented by microorganisms into lactic acid, which in turn is converted into polylactide. Polymerisation produces long-linked molecular chains whose properties resemble those of petroleum-based polymers.

PBAT (Polybutyrate Adipate Terephthalate)is incredibly biodegradable and will decompose in home compost leaving no toxic residues.It is, in-fact, PBAT that is added to make the product degrade quickly enough to meet the home compostability criteria.PBAT is derived from petroleum however, it actually biodegrades quicker and more efficiently than a corn cob or avocado skin!

Ghost Bags in conjunction with the manufacturer, have been tested by OWS and certified by TUV AUSTRIA as Ok Compost, Home Ok Compost (certification No. S329), By DIN CERTCO according to EN13432 (7P0467, 7P0477), and safe for direct food contact (FDA). Certified bg SQP and BSCI.

 

CERTIFIED COMPOSTABLE IN U.S. & EUROPE: Certified by the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) under US standard ASTM D6400. Certified OK Compost Home under European standard EN 13432 by Vinçotte and Tūv Austria.
